NDMA warns South of heavy urban flooding

 Canada Karachi – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of hefty urban flooding next week in the southern part of the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), in a press release, said strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate Sindh from Monday, September 27, and would continue till Saturday, October 2.

The rainfall is expected to subside in the upper parts of the country and will occur in the southern half during the next week, with gaps as per the PMD.

The met office informed Sunday that as per the impact of this weather system, rain-wind-thundershower is forecasted in Thar Parker, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Thatta, Umar Kot, Badin, Hyderabad, Tando Allayar,  Karachi, Tando Muhammad Khan, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Mitiari, Kalat, Khuzdar and Lasbella from Tuesday, September 28, to Saturday, October 02, with occasional gaps.

Furthermore, heavy rainfall in Karachi, Thatta, Hyderabad, and Badin is expected during the said period.

The Met Office, alerting the relevant authorities, said: It is directed that all concerned authorities should remain alert during the said forecast period.

The statement further said that wind, isolated rain, and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Northeast Punjab, Kashmir, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan on September 27, 28, 30, and October 1.

Rain, wind and thunderstorms are also expected in Larkana, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Kohlu, Barkhan, Zhob, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Bahawalpur, and Rajanpur from September 28-30.

K-Electric has warned the residents of Karachi that the accumulation of water and inundated roads can lead to possible power outages. People can proceed to get their complaints registered by dialing 118 or messaging 8119.

“Special care must be taken while using electrical appliances in this rainy season. It must be remembered that the improper use of electrical appliances like water motors in rain and water can lead to accidents. Furthermore, citizens must stay away from TV, broken wires, electricity poles, internet cables, and PMTs.”
