The 773rd Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar was inaugurated in Sehwan preceded by prayers which began the festivities attended by thousands of devotees. Among those who performed the prayers at the shrine was Acting Sindh Governor Syed Awais Qadir Shah who was joined by Sindh’s Auqaf Minister Riaz Shah Shirazi and various other officials.
There has been a major increase in attendance for this year’s Urs celebrations in Sehwan. Events include folk music festivals, Sughar Katchery and exhibitions showcasing Sindhi handicrafts highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the region. A literary conference is also being held where scholars present their research papers on the saint’s life and influence.
However, the ‘Dhamaal’ dance centered on the Urs represents the spirit of devotion. Minister Shirazi intensified his stress on enhanced security and other facilities given to the pilgrims. As celebrations proceed, people pay homage to the Sufi saint by partaking in various religious rituals and cultural events.
