As the tenure of the National Assembly approaches its end in less than two weeks, the composition of the interim set-up has become a subject of speculation.
The federal government’s silence has added fuel to the rumors, but Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb clarified that the appointment of the interim prime minister will be done in accordance with the Constitution, without specifying the exact timing of the process.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a tweet, stated that no candidate has been chosen or ruled out for the interim prime minister position.
He emphasized that the decision would be made after consultations with allied parties and PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif.
PM Shehbaz has already held meetings with several political leaders, including JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman and ANP’s Aimal Wali Khan, to discuss the political situation and the caretaker set-up.
National Assembly’s Decision
Further consultations with the opposition leader in the National Assembly are expected soon to exchange names for the caretaker prime minister.
While several names have been circulating, no official or unofficial confirmation has been given.
The PPP Central Executive Committee will meet to decide on names for the caretaker prime minister, and a delegation will later meet the prime minister to propose the chosen names.
Previously, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was rumored to be the caretaker PM, but due to opposition and allied parties’ objections, the PM ruled out any partisan candidate and expressed the need for a neutral figure to ensure a transparent election process.
