The US has reiterated its commitment of helping Pakistan fight terrorism following last week’s deadly attacks in Balochistan that left over 50 people dead. Matthew Miller, US State Department’s spokesperson, told reporters at a news briefing that Washington strongly condemned the Baloch Liberation Army’s (BLA) attack in Musakhail. The August 25-26 attack was the deadliest in Balochistan.
The US-designated terror group BLA blew up a railway bridge that linked the province to the rest of Pakistan, attacked police and military posts, and targeted buses transporting civilians – shooting 23 dead.
Miller acknowledged that Pakistan and its people have been targeted by violent extremist terrorists. He highlighted that the United States stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.
US Ready To Work With Countries to Eradicate Terrorists
Sabrina Singh, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary, said Washington is always willing to work with any nation that wants to uproot terrorist organizations. She stated that the United States has good cooperation with Islamabad.
In recent years, Pakistan has seen a surge in terror attacks with August 2024 alone having recorded 59 terror attacks. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have witnessed a surged in terror attacks. Punjab recorded two such incidents.
Pakistan Armed Forces have found militant groups using American weapons and military equipment, which were left behind by the US and international forces when they left neighboring Afghanistan to the hands of the Taliban in 2021. Various reports stated that foreign military hardware have bolstered the militant groups.
To tackle the growing menace of terrorists and groups like ISIS-Khorasan, BLA and TTP, Pakistan has been working with the US through counterterrorism collaboration. Both countries have strengthened multilateral engagements, including the Global Counterterrorism Forum.
