Trump's Envoy Calls for Release of Imran Khan from Pakistani Prison

The US President-elect’s special envoy Richard Grenell has urged for the release of Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and a world famous cricketer, from prison. In an interview with Newsmax, Grenell compared the situation of Khan to Trump and pointed at false allegations against the representatives of the ruling party.

Grenell recalled that within the Trump administration, relations between the United States and Pakistan are excellent because Khan has no experience in politics and speaks directly. Cricket star turned-politician Imran Khan also had a very good relationship with Trump, said the envoy.

This statement has come at a time when 54 members of the US Congress have written a letter to President Joe Biden about Khan’s detention referring to it as unlawful. The congressional letter called for his release now, and expressed concerns about human rights in Pakistan – particularly concerning compliance with UN Working Group recommendations.
