Jaffar Express Resumes After 17-Day Suspension in Quetta

Train services were finally reopened to the entire country after a 17-day suspension in Balochistan. The Jaffar Express made its way from Quetta to Peshawar on Friday after the closure of vital rail link operations due to the fatal attack by terrorists.

Relief for the Passengers

A large number of passengers wanted to board the 10-coach train that started its inaugural journey by Member National Assembly Jamal Shah along with railway officials. Before entering the train, these passengers were entirely screened, while more security was attached to the passengers during their journey.

Economic and Human Costs of Train Suspension

Following the attack on March 11, Rs9 million were approximately lost by Pakistan Railways due to the resulting shutdown. Tragically, the toll on the passengers was 26 lives lost, while within a few hours, security forces managed to neutralize all 33 attackers believed to be behind the attack. Some sectors have reported that losses could have been even higher.

Jaffar Express: A Symbol of Connectivity

Jaffar Express is the only train to traverse all four provinces of Pakistan, thus making it very important to Pakistan’s railway system. Its recent entry into Quetta from Peshawar during a 34-hour-long journey shows how this country’s transport system stands.

Where the shrill whistles of train engines resound at Quetta railway station, once the reopening of Jaffar Express does not only stand for normalcy but rather represents endurance and defiance against terrorism.
