Shoaib Malik Resigns as Domestic Cricket Mentor
Shoaib Malik, former captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, has resigned from his position as Domestic Cricket Mentor. He announced via a social media post on X on Tuesday and stated that it was time for him to move on due to an increased personal and professional burden.
Shoaib Malik formally resigned less than two weeks ago from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In his post, he said the following: “This was not an easy decision, but I ultimately came to the conclusion that I could not do justice to Pakistan cricket or any of my other responsibilities by trying to balance all of those responsibilities.
In stepping down, Malik assured Post that he will continue to fulfill his duties until the PCB finds a more suited replacement for the upcoming season. Malik also thanked PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi the executive team; Wahab Riaz; the coaching team; and players for believing in him and allowing him the opportunity to mentor young talent in Pakistan.
Shoaib Malik made his international debut in 1999 as an off-break bowler and ultimately established himself as a dependable batting all-rounder. He is only the second player in all of One Day Internationals (ODIs) to score over 7,534 runs and nine centuries and also took 158 wickets across 287 ODIs. Malik has also captained Pakistan in 41 ODIs.
