Karachi will witness a great commotion as the newly renovated National Stadium is about to reopen with a pleasant ceremony on February 11. Much awaited, it will feature spellbinding performances by Shafqat Amanat Ali, Ali Zafar and Sahir Ali Bagga, burning fireworks and a light show.
This reopening culminates 126 days of comprehensive renovations to redevelop the stadium into a world class cricket venue. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his gratitude to the workers, contractors and delegations documenting the venue’s modernization to wit as a renovated pavilion, LED lighting, updated score screens and a better experience for fans.
Entry will be free enabling cricket and music lovers to be a part of history as it happens. The grand reopening will give a festive occasion and presumably pave the way for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan February 19 through March 9.
The arena will be one of the major venues for the tournament hosting three matches including the opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand.
The ceremony will have a liveliness of music, a barrage of fireworks and equally spectacular stadium upgrades. It would be Karachi’s evening before its international cricketing engagements. Crowds are expected to pour in, thereby setting the momentum for a flavourful cricketing season.
