The Government’s Ramadan Relief Package worth Rs 7.5 Billion, will not extend Discounted rates to three Essential items: Sugar, flour and Ghee as Reported by News.

Despite the relief Package announcement, Sources reveal that the Prices of Sugar, flour and ghee will remain unchanged at utility Stores.

Under this Package a 10-kilogram bag of flour will be Priced at Rs 648, while Sugar for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Beneficiaries will be Available at Rs 109 per Kilogram. Additionally Ghee will be Sold at Rs 365 Per kilogram.

Utility Store management has Clarified that Prices for BISP Beneficiaries are already Subsidised thus there will be no further Reduction.

Initially Slated to Commence on March 4 the relief package implementation has been Postponed to March 5 as per the Decision of the Caretaker Cabinet.

In February the federal Cabinet Sanctioned the Ramadan Relief Package for 2024 amounting to Rs 7.49 Billion in Preparation for the upcoming Holy Month. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) had earlier approved this subsidy allocation for the targeted beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), aligning with the Budget for 2023-24.

In Conclusion, while the Government’s Ramadan relief Package aims to alleviate financial Burdens during the holy Month, the decision not to offer discounts on essential Commodities like Sugar, flour and ghee may raise concerns among consumers.
