ptcl telenor merger faces delays as ceo urges ccp approval

The PTCL and Ufone 4G head Hatem Bamatraf warns that delaying PTCL-Telenor merger approval places the deal at risk. On Monday Bamatraf told the media that his submission to the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) remains under review after being stalled for eleven months. PTCL and Telenor face disappointment from their teams over the decision makers’ prolonged action. According to Bamatraf Etisalat entered into worldwide mergers without experiencing delays like these.

Bamatraf stated that contractual deadlines would fail to meet their obligations if the competition authority continued blocking the business merger. The businessman warned that PTCL may not complete its loan agreement with the International Finance Corporation because the Competition Commission of Pakistan has not yet responded promptly.

During the press conference, PTCL management presented the company’s financial results for Q1 2025:

  • The PTCL group recorded revenues of Rs 61.85 billion in January-March 2025
  • Despite a 22% revenue growth, the group faced a net loss of Rs3.97 billion
  • PTCL itself managed to achieve a net profit of Rs1.17 billion
  • Ufone, despite a 21% revenue increase, remained inthe  loss
