Pakistan’s tennis stars Aisam-ul-Haq and Aqeel Khan scored another win for the country after beating the Indonesian duo and securing a place in the Davis Cup World Group-I playoff.

Pakistan displayed a dominating performance as they secured a 5-0 victory over Indonesia in the Davis Cup World Group-II tie, earning themselves a spot in the World Group-I playoff. The playoff is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, with the draw set to take place on September 20.

The highlight of this thrilling tie was the doubles match held at the Aisam-ul-Haq Tennis Pavilion, located within the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad. Tennis maestro Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, paired with Pakistan’s No.1 player Aqeel Khan, faced off against the Indonesian duo of David and Anthony Susanto. The match delivered a nail-biting spectacle, with the Indonesians taking the first set 6-3. However, the Pakistani pair made a stunning comeback, securing the closely contested second set 7-5. In the decisive third set, the Pakistani aces asserted their dominance, triumphing with a score of 6-2 and ultimately clinching victory in the tie.

In another intense match, Muhammad Shoaib showcased his resilience as he battled against Gunawan Trismuwantara. Shoaib came from behind in both sets, ultimately winning 7-6(4), 6-4 in the reverse singles, ensuring Pakistan’s clean sweep in the tie.

Salim Saifullah Khan, the President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, extended his congratulations to the Pakistani team for their outstanding victory and their qualification for the coveted World Group-I playoff. Notably, on the preceding Saturday, both Aisam and Aqeel had already triumphed over their respective opponents in singles competitions.
