The Head of UN Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix Paid a Visit to Pakistani Peacekeepers Serving in the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei an area Marred by dispute Between South Sudan and Sudan. He Commended their tireless Efforts in upholding Peace and Stability in the Volatile Region.

During the Visit which included the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Hanna Tetteh a Poignant moment was Observed as Lacroix and Tetteh laid a floral Wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument. They Honoured the Memory of fallen Pakistan Army Soldiers including sepoy Muhammad Tariq who Sacrificed his life in the line of Duty last Month. A minute of Silence was observed in their Remembrance.

The Unit Commander of the Pakistani Peacekeepers Provided insights into the Various Peacekeeping initiatives Undertaken by the Pakistan Battalion to Ensure tranquility in the area. Additionally they Highlighted the Valuable Contributions of the Battalion’s female staff in Areas such as Healthcare alongside their Peacekeeping duties.

Lacroix also Engaged in Discussions with tribal Leaders of the Region Gaining further Understanding of the local Dynamics and Challenges.

Reflecting on his Recent Visit to the Wagha Border near Lahore Lacroix acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in Promoting Religious Harmony, notably through the Establishment of the Kartarpur Corridor. Tetteh Expressed her keen interest in Personally Visiting the Corridor in the Future.

Impressed by the Dedication and Professionalism of the Pakistani Peacekeepers the Delegation toured the Pakistan Battalion’s Camp. They were treated to a Remarkable Performance by the Army Unit band and Enjoyed a Cultural show Organised by local Children. The exchange of Souvenirs further Strengthened the Bonds between the Visiting UN officials and the Pakistani Peacekeeping Contingent.
