Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif met Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday and congratulated him on the passionate address to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly that focussed on the Palestine crisis.

In a statement, the PM said, “The way he highlighted the issue touched the hearts of all those listening to him in the Assembly hall.” During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations, and cooperation in different fields such as defence, and economic infrastructure development.

There were talks about accelerating efforts for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza enclave for sustenance of peace in the region and humanitarian supplies to Palestanians stuck in the Gaza Strip.

President Erdogan is said to make a visit to Pakistan soon. In his UN speech, Erdogan said that  the values of the UN and the western world are dying in Gaza as the conflict’s duration is still continuing calling for an alliance of humanity to step in to end the mass massacre of human life, culture and property by Israel Defence Forces.

The Turkish leader strongly criticised Israel for the military campaign of the IDF and the occupation of the Gaza Strip and western countries for supporting the mass murder.

PM Sharif said the agreement with the IMF was in the final stages of approval as Pakistan had accepted all the conditions although some of them were challenging to the government. He thanked China, Saudi Arabia and the UAE for their unwavering support in the times of need.

The Prime Minister is due to meet the IMF chief soon for talks regarding extension of financial support by the International Monetary Fund.
