The Shehbaz Sharif Government on Monday decided to reverse the policy of suspending the issuance of passports to Pak citizens who are trying to seek asylum abroad.
This statement came after a high level meeting conducted by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar where the welfare of Pakistani nationals were discussed.
According to the official press release, it said, “The meeting discussed in detail the recent policy decision that was taken on 5th June 2024 for not issuing passports to any individual who had sought asylum or living abroad on asylum. It was decided to withdraw the decision and reverse it with immediate effect.”
The meeting was attended by the foreign secretary, interior secretary, and the Director General of Immigration and Passports (IMPass) notably. Issues like issuance of passports to Non Resident Pakistanis were put up in the meeting to be discussed so that a decision can be made regarding the matter.
It was decided in the meeting that the interior ministry and IMPass would take steps to upgrade the infrastructure and equipment within the coming 45 working days and accelerate the clearance of the long list of backlogs that had piled up regarding the issuance of passports to Pak citizens.
Talks with Omani Foreign Ministry;
Pak Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar also spoke to his Omani Counterpart Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi via phone regarding the recent terror attack in Muscat where 6 people were killed including 4 Pakistani nationals, one Indian and a local policeman who retaliated.
Dar was heard speaking of providing assistance to Oman regarding security and also mentioned strengthening the bilateral political relations and fostering trade between the two countries.
