Oil Industry Guarantees Support Amid India Tensions

With the growing tensions with India, the oil sector in Pakistan stated, unswervingly, that it would be business as usual. Stockpiles of diesel, petrol, and furnace oil were said to be healthy and the stockpiles of jet fuel were adequate for defending the national interest. The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) assured 24/7 support to the government, underscoring that they would work around the clock, using their facilities anywhere they were needed during a time their nation would need it most.

Meanwhile, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Petroleum held meetings with Canada’s envoy, Daniel Arsenault, to discuss potential synergies in clean energy technologies, mineral exploration, and geological surveys. Minister Malik had also extended an ask for Canadian companies to look at opportunities in Pakistan’s energy sector, while Mr. Arsenault promoted opportunities for geological surveys to collaborate on and extended an invitation to Canada’s Global Energy Show.

In recognizing the regional tensions, Mr. Arsenault stressed the need for restraint and has concerns over instability, including over Canada-Pakistan relations. Minister Malik welcomed Canada’s desire to come together for increased cooperation and discussed Pakistan’s economic development, and its desire to benefit from Canadian experience to contribute to new economic growth. Both sides pledged to stay in contact to protect mutual understanding and economic relations, in geopolitical challenges.
