Pakistan proposes National Esports Policy with support from UK

Pakistan is taking a significant step in developing its esports sector, by commencing the drafting of a National Esports Policy. Following a recent conference with officials from the Commonwealth Secretariat and the British Esports Federation, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) convened the meeting that is expected to produce the new policy.

Targeting to develop esports as an industry

The new esports policy aims to recognize esports as a legitimate economy sector within Pakistan. This could elevate employment opportunities, enhance training for youth while improving local talent programming within digital skills as well as promoting innovations through gaming technology.

Led by IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the meeting also received support from Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and other relevant officials within the government, including MNA Amna Batool and other representatives from the Commonwealth and British Esports Federation.According to Rana Mashood, the meeting concluded with a collective pledge to establish a robust inclusive Esports Policy which adheres to international best practices and supports Pakistan’s digital future.

Encouraging support for local game developers

Minister Shaza Fatima congratulated local Pakistani game developers for publishing games on the global stage with SEGA and Nintendo. She noted that Pakistan has great talent and is investing in training, but many local developers face challenges developing a business model to sustain profitability and build their own platform.
