The features of e-passports also known as electronic passports have been advanced for the modern world. The new e-passports have an embedded chip placed in the outer cover of the passport and hold a detailed biometric profile of the passport holder. This has placed Pakistan on the same level as more than 150 countries of the world that have adopted this safe travel documentation system a landmark achievement in the development of Pakistan’s outbound traveling business.
New Fee Structure Implemented
The government of Pakistan has introduced a list of charges for the new e-passport set to take effect starting from October 2024. For a normal 36-page five-year passport, applicants will pay Rs9,000 for normal processing and Rs15,000 for urgent processing. The 10-year validity option of the same passport type costs Rs 13500 for normal time and Rs 22500 for express time.
The variant is 72 pages long and has its price range since it is intended for regular travelers. A five-year validity passport is Rs16,500 for normal service and Rs27,000 for emergency service. Those who intend to have the visa with a validity of ten years will be required to pay Rs24,750 with normal processing time while the urgent processing time will cost Rs 40500.
New measures of security and worldwide advantages
The new advent of e-passports can be said to be a giant leap in document security as well as ease of international travel for Pakistani citizens. The technology used within the chips keeps important biometric information, and therefore, the passport is very hard to fake. This is an extra added advantage in that it enhances the security of the traveler’s passport and would deter anybody from attempting identity theft.
These new travel documents allow Pakistanis to use e-gates at airports across the globe decreasing immigration time for foreigners. The upgrade also helps in applying through online channels for the programs, especially for overseas Pakistanis. This modernization initiative enhances the position of Pakistan in the international traveling community and is in consonance with international security norms.
