Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hasan and Hussain, have been granted relief by an accountability court. This means they are no longer accused in certain corruption cases involving Al-Azizia Steel Mills, the Flagship company, and Avenfield apartments.

Their lawyer argued that since their father, Nawaz Sharif, was acquitted in a similar case and the National Accountability Court (NAB) withdrew its appeal against this decision, the proceedings against Hasan and Hussain shouldn’t continue. The lawyer emphasized that it wouldn’t be fair to pursue charges against them when the main suspect, their father, had been cleared.

The NAB prosecutor insisted that even though Nawaz Sharif was acquitted, Hasan and Hussain were still accused of abetting and conspiring in the alleged crimes. However, the defense argued that since no new evidence had been presented against them, it would be pointless to prosecute them further.

The court was also reminded that the Islamabad High Court had acquitted Nawaz Sharif based on the same evidence presented against his daughter, Maryam Nawaz. Moreover, the NAB did not challenge this decision.

In December 2023, the Islamabad High Court accepted Nawaz Sharif’s appeal in the Al-Azizia case, indicating a lack of substantial evidence against him. The defense stressed that since no new evidence had emerged, prosecuting Hasan and Hussain would be a waste of time for the court.
