In October 2012, the Pakistan government introduced its first electronic identity card SNIC (Smart National Identity Card) which is used for official activities like voting, pension disbursement, social & financial inclusion, and identifying an individual both online & offline. It has a data chip and 36 security features. Every Pakistani citizen aged 18 and above is considered to be eligible to apply and receive their NIC (National Identity Card).
Based on the processing time and the fee paid for the Smart ID card, it is categorized into three types. A New update has been given by NADRA regarding the fee that a citizen needs to pay for their Smart ID cards. The ID holders are instructed to manage the renewal of their ID Cards because it is the basic necessary document for any official taks like opening bank account, investing & sewing employment, and inn purchasing a property.
