Renowned Banker Muhammad Aurangzeb has Officially taken the Helm as the Finance Minister in Pakistan’s Newly appointed Federal Cabinet under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Aurangzeb’s Appointment Comes at a Critical time as the Country Grapples with Economic and Political Challenges following the February 8 General Elections.
Aurangzeb’s Arrival at the Finance ministry was met with a warm reception from Ministry Officials and he immediately Engaged in Preliminary Discussions with Senior Management to Kickstart his Tenure. Prior to assuming his New Role Aurangzeb tendered his Resignation as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Reflecting his Commitment to Public Service.
The Selection of Aurangzeb over other Seasoned Veterans including Former finance Minister Ishaq Dar shows the Government’s emphasis on Charting a Path towards Economic Recovery and Stability. With Pakistan’s current International Monetary Fund (IMF) Programme set to Expire next month Aurangzeb’s Leadership will be Pivotal in Negotiating a New, longer-term Bailout to address Pressing Economic Concerns such as High inflation and External financing Requirements.
The Swearing-in Ceremony of the New Cabinet took Place Recently with President Asif Ali Zardari administering the Oaths. Despite not Holding a Parliamentary Seat Aurangzeb’s appointment as finance minister is Permitted under the Constitution for a maximum Period of Six Months.
