Mo Naqvi Earns an Emmy Nomination for Netflix Cold War Series
The Emmy Award nomination was recently announced for Mohammed Ali Naqvi, more popularly known as Mo Naqvi, for the immensely powerful docuseries on Netflix, Turning Point: The Bomb & The Cold War, which explores the far-reaching impact of the Cold War.
The 9-part series produced by Brian Knappenberger took two full years to create, clocking in filming across seven countries. In this show, for the first time, exclusive interviews were conducted with world leaders, including Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Tony Blair. Thanks to its massive success, the show ranked third worldwide on Netflix charts, achieving over 621 million minutes streamed in just a few weeks.
This nomination is the fourth for Naqvi in the Emmys. In 2023, he made history as the first Pakistani to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy for The Accused: Damned or Devoted?. His first were two Emmy nominations in 2008 honoring The Shame. He later received the Television Academy Honor for that same piece, therefore taking his count of Emmy recognitions to five times.
The documentary isn’t just about talking about Cold War-era events: it is a confrontation with the fact that those decisions continue to shape the world today. He gave examples of U.S. interventions and meddling in other countries such as Iran and Guatemala, in negating how such decisions have proved to be detrimental in shaping the world to this day across a long stretch of time.
