Mitchell Owen's Record-Equaling Century Powers Hobart Hurricanes to BBL 2025 Glory

Historic batting masterclass by Mitchell Owen in Hobart Hurricanes’ Big Bash League 2025 final victory with a match winning innings of 108 from just 42 balls to beat Sydney Thunders. In reaching century in 39 balls, Kingston native 23, broke up BBL record for fastest hundred.

Owen kicked off the Hurricanes’ chase of 183 with the opening innings and battered his way through the powerplay, putting the Hurricanes 98 without loss. His strike rate of 257 was something to behold while his explosive innings of six fours and a finals record 11 sixes blasted away to set up the win. Kishan’s century (101* off 64) against Perth Scorchers in December 2024 was a breakthrough performance, and the all rounder’s untarnished season continued.

However, from state player in the Tasmania Twenty20 competition, Owen has become a BBL sensation. Included on his journey is success in List A cricket and first class debut for Tasmania in October 2023. Owen was originally an off spinner, but transitioned into burning medium pace, and that transformation continues to be a masterstroke for the Hurricanes.
