gta 6 becomes most watched game trailer
The trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 created yet another record as it crossed the 250 million view mark and made roughly $1 million worth of income since it came out in December 2023. The trailer on Tuesday made an official announcement about surpassing Minecraft and clinching the second position in the all-time list of the most-watched video game trailer.
The GTA 6 trailer was launched on December 4, 2023, and has now become the latest entry on a long list. At the time, GTA 6 stood at 168,609,505 views, while Minecraft was still holding a long-held score of 167,800,171. Initially, this was impressive because the Minecraft trailer had held its record from its release on December 6, 2011, more than ten years before GTA 6 was ever acknowledged.
While this is certainly yet another landmark achievement for Rockstar Games, the total still has quite a long way to go before it becomes the most-watched trailer of all time. That honor currently belongs to the Subway Surfers trailer, from 2012, which has attracted an astonishing 361 million viewers. While not the main game in many circles, GTA holds cultural significance, and Subway Surfers has a much more impressive total of over 4 billion downloads, having been made into one of the most popular games.
As the gaming community awaits the much-awaited GTA 6 in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the PC players seem to have still been neglected from the earlier bunch of launch platforms. The trailer certainly had some drama since a premature leak had many Rockstar developers feeling frustrated and resulted in the usual content strikes against certain streamers by those who shared the footage.
