According to the spokesperson of Sui Southern Gas Company, Pakistan’s leading natural gas transmission company, the shutdown of transmission of natural gas, that is likely to affect both domestic and industrial consumers in the same way, is due to the joining of transmission pipeline work.

The statement said that the affected areas are inside Surjani Town, Manghopir, Qasba Town, Orangi, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, FB area, Buffer Zone, Industrial area, Baldia, Ittehad among others. Other areas include Kemari, Gulshan e Iqbal, Ahsanabad, Janjal Goth, and near the Super Highway surroundings.

The Gas supply is to be cut short from 5am on July 28 and will continue till 5am the next day. Consumers are advised to make necessary fuel arrangements for the time period.

Another significant development took place recently when Mari Petroleum Company successfully found gas reserves from five wells in the Sindh Province of the country. The company has completed the testing, production and transmission of an additional 3 million metric standard cubic feet per day(MMSCFD) of gas.

The development was announced after the submission of detailed reports to the Pakistan Stock Exchange. According to Mari Petroleum, the natural gas reserves extracted from the Ghazi Gas Field are being supplied to the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). 

In March, 2024 miscreants blew up the 24 inch diameter pipeline resulting in a shortage of the essential fuel in various areas including Quetta. The damage was so high that the entire natural gas supply had to be cut off due to the explosion.
