fuel prices hike by the government from june 16
Pakistan Raises Petrol and Diesel Prices Again – This is Why
On June 16, 2025, the Government of Pakistan released an announcement regarding a significant rise in fuel prices subsequently causing worry in citizens who expressed their disapproval with both the National and provincial governments about inflation.
The Finance Division of Pakistan advised the people of Pakistan that the price of petrol was going up by 4.80 rupees to a price of 258.43 rupees a litre and diesel was increasing by 7.95 rupees to a price of 262.59 rupees a litre.
The government explained the increases were necessary because the international price of fuel has recently changed, and so it will affect the invoice the Pakistan government will receive in foreign currency when fuel has to be purchased due to fuel being 100% an import in Pakistan. Every time the fuel price increases, it will hit the local market extremely bluntly, because Pakistan has no local production of fuel.
This price notification is issued less than 15 days after the last price increase therefore it indicates that the price of international oil must be unstable. The Financed Division also communicated that these new rates would start on June 16 and reputation for any further amendments over that time for the next two weeks.
This sudden increase in fuel prices will affect transportation, food prices and electricity tariffs in turn affecting the average Pakistani’s life a bit more miserable as if inflation does not do the job.
Experts argue that unless the value of the rupee appreciates or international prices decrease, we can expect fuel rates to rise again in the next few months.
