Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan Faces Risk of Losing Hosting Rights to UAE Over Stadium Delays

Pakistan is still in the dark of its preparedness to host the Champions Trophy 2025 since construction of three giant stadiums; the National Stadium in Karator; Rawal Cricket Stadium and the Gaddafi Cricket Stadium in Lahore still remain under construction. These venues are required to be provided by the PCB to the ICC for the tournament by the February 12 start date of the tournament that starts on February 19.

Claiming that instead of the renovation, new constructions are currently in progress, some sources cause doubts regarding stadiums’ preparedness. Pakistan expects an ICC inspection team to visit the country shortly to make their assessment. However, as one approaches in time technical issues crop up and the pressure to meet international standards continues to rise.

Such alert measures, as stated by the ICC are being worked out in advance such as shifting the World Cup tournament to Dubai. As it stands, all of India’s games will be in the UAE anyway due to Covid restrictions and, should they progress to knockouts, these will similarly take place in UAE. This would be another blow for Pakistan that at first suggested hosting the tournament in a hybrid manner.

Inability to meet this deadline was big risk for PCB and its reputation, this could have led to future events not being hosted in the country. Actually, both the ICC and PCB are under much pressure to address this logistical challenge.
