canada issues new travel advisory for pakistan amid security concerns
Canada has recently issued a Revised Travel Advisory for its Citizens in Pakistan, Urging them to Exercise a High Degree of Caution Due to the Current Security Situation and the Looming threat of Terrorism. The Advisory,as Reported by News, Highlights Various Concerns including Terrorism, Civil unrest, Sectarian Violence and Kidnapping.
Canadian nationals are Particularly Cautioned against Traveling within 50 kilometers of the Afghanistan Border within 10 kilometers of the Borders with India and Iran and within 10 kilometers of the Line of Control (LoC) with exceptions for official Border Crossings at Wagah Border and Khunjerab Pass.
Specific regions identified as high-risk include Sections of the Karakoram Highway from Mansehra to Chilas, Kashmir, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa excluding Certain districts like Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Buner and Chitral.
This Advisory Comes in the Wake of Heightened Security Concerns in Pakistan Particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan following the Termination of the Ceasefire between the Government and the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November. In a tragic incident in December 2023, terrorists targeted a security Forces’ Post in Dera Ismail Khan’s Daraban area resulting in the martyrdom of 23 Pakistan Army Soldiers.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) the attackers attempted to enter the Post but Security forces thwarted their Efforts. In Response the Terrorists Detonated an Explosive-laden Vehicle and Carried out a Suicide Bombing, causing the Collapse of the Building and the Loss of 23 Soldiers. All six terrorists involved in the attack were effectively engaged and neutralized.
