Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is eyeing a Political Shift as he expresses his Desire to Contest the upcoming General Elections from Lahore, according to Reports. Bilawal Bhutto has Reportedly acquired Nomination Papers for the NA-128 Constituency in Lahore indicating his intent to be Part of the Political landscape in the City. However the final Decision Rests on the approval of PPP’s Parliamentary Board.

Sources suggest that PPP Leaders have encouraged Bilawal Bhutto to Consider Lahore as his Electoral Battleground and he has also acquired Nomination papers for the NA-194 Constituency in Larkana. The Filing of Nomination Papers is Scheduled from December 20 to 22 and the list of Nominated Candidates will be Published on December 23.

To Officially enter the Electoral Race a Candidate as per guidelines from the Electoral Body, must be accompanied by two Voters from the same Constituency to Propose and Second the Nomination. It is Noteworthy that an individual Cannot serve as a Proposer or Seconder for more than one Candidate.

In a Parallel Development, major Political Parties including PML-N and MQM-P have sought an extension in the Deadline for filing Nomination Papers beyond December 22 for the upcoming General Elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has outlined a Comprehensive Election Schedule. After the Nomination filing Period the last date for Filing appeals against Decisions of Returning Officers is Set between December 24 and 30. The Appellate Tribunal will decide on these appeals by January 03, 2024. Subsequently the revised list of Candidates will be Published on January 12 and Election Symbols will be allotted on January 13.

This Election Program applies to Seats reserved for Women and Non-Muslims in the National Assembly and Provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan Provinces. The last date for filing a Separate priority list for reserved Seats is December 22, 2023. The Election day is Scheduled for February 08, 2024, marking a Crucial Milestone in Pakistan’s democratic Process.
