
Attack on Convoy in Kurram Injures Deputy Commissioner Over Peace Efforts
A vehicle carrying food supplies to Kurram was attacked; DC (Deputy Commissioner) Javedullah Mehsud, a police officer, and an FC soldier were wounded. The incident occurred in the Bagan area of Lower Kurram at 10:35 am they met the SET 2 practitioners at 35 am, while still negotiating for safe conduct. The injured were taken to Lower Alizai Hospital and the condition of DC is said to be out of danger.
The attack was done several days after some of the tribes agreed to a ceasefire to pave the way for the stabilization of the tension-prone area. The agreement which was signed in a Grand Jirga also included; the demolishing of bunkers, laying down of arms, as well as opening up of roads which included; Tal –Parachinar RoadToto implement it and to launch it effectively, a 16-member committee was established.
People’s rallies continue in Parachinar and Baggan where people want the government to ramp up security, pay for damages, and open roads. The convoy attacked today was the first supply effort following the agreement and it had security. Several government agencies have promised to take prompt action against the offenders.
