Pakistan is to take on arch rivals India today at the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 match at Moqi Training Base, Hulunbuir, China. The match will start at 12.45 pm PST (Pakistan Standard Time). The Green shirts, ranked globally in the 16th place, are currently placed at the second spot in the Champions Trophy tournament right below India. They have scored eleven goals, drawn against Malaysia and South Korea and conceded five in return.

India is currently ranked fifth in the world and is placed at the top of the current points table with 12 points in 4 matches winning each of them.

Pakistan has won the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 3 times and India has bagged it 4 times. Speaking to media, Pak Hockey team’s performance coach Tahir Zaman, who joined the national team in the start of the tournament stated that the team will adopt a tactical approach against their arch rivals rather than going out all guns blazing.

“We would like to play a tactical game rather than making an all out effort to bag a win against India”, he said also adding that he hopes to take the neighbours in the tournament’s final match and clinch the trophy.

He added, “The boys have shown immense strength and coordination during the last two matches that we won. The team has shown signs of improvement and hopefully things will be much better in the semis where Korea would be our opponents.”’

Till now Pak has won against Japan and hosts China by margins of 2-1 and 5-1 respectively to qualify for the tournament’s semi finals. On the other side, China is set to lock horns against Japan while Malaysia and South Korea dwell on it off to book the remaining two seats for the semis.
