Increasing the airport’s sustainability and climate-resilience of the infrastructure, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has recently passed an $8.62m loan to Pakistan for construction of the private sector aviation fuel storage. The developmental financing package can be seen as an investment in the further development of the aviation industry in the country working to mitigate emissions of carbon and improving energy structures. The proposed project to be launched in Sheikhupura, Punjab will further reinforce the commitment of the ADB to provide much-needed financial support to Pakistan for realizing its economic and environment-related goals.
The new proposed aviation fuel storage terminal in Sheikhupura City will prove vital in balancing the aviation fuel stock in Pakistan. With the help of ADB’s Climate Support Framework, the project aims to build a stronger and more sustainable aviation network from a climate perspective. The loan shows the country’s willingness to go with innovation to counter both economic and environmental problems on the way to creating a more sustainable transport diversification in Pakistan.
This is not the first project that the ADB has financially sponsored. Recently, the bank approved a $ 500 million policy-based loan for climate change and disaster risks management in Pakistan. This integrated approach indicates that the ADB is ready to strengthen the institutional capacity in climate and renewable energy and innovation-based financing of disasters in Pakistan.
