KP Announces Four-Day Public Holidays For Eid: Official Dates, Travel Rush Expectations and Government Schedule Details Explained

The KP Eid holidays 2026 are set to run from Tuesday, May 26 to Friday, May 29, providing government workers, students and private sector employees more time to spend with their families and travel to their hometowns or tourist spots.

When coupled with the weekend of May 30 and 31, the holiday period creates an extended break for a large portion of the population.  Authorities across Pakistan are already gearing up for increased commercial movement and public transport demand during the festive season.

KP Eid-ul-Azha official holiday schedule issued

All public sector offices, autonomous institutions, educational institutions and many private sector organisations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain closed during the four-day Eid holiday period, according to a notification issued by the provincial government.

The schedule has been prepared to cater for five-day and six-day working systems, so as to ensure an uninterrupted administrative break throughout the province. Government offices are expected to resume normal business on Monday, June 1.

Despite the closures, essential services such as hospitals, rescue operations, municipal sanitation departments and law enforcement agencies will remain open throughout the Eid holidays to ensure public safety and emergency response readiness.

The announcement has been welcomed by many citizens, especially families who plan intercity travel or Eid gatherings during the summer season.

Heavy travel rush to be seen on KP highways, tourist routes

Officials are expecting a big travel rush before the Eid holidays as people head from the cities to their hometowns, rural areas and tourist spots in the north.

Heavy traffic congestion is expected on the major highways linking cities like Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Abbottabad, especially on the last working days before Eid. Tourist hotspots like Swat, Naran, Kaghan and the adjoining northern valleys are likely to be swarmed by a large number of tourists.

The M-1 Motorway and Grand Trunk Road are likely to be among the busiest travel corridors during the holiday period. Traffic authorities have urged commuters to avoid peak daytime travel and opt for late-night departures to help ease congestion and delays.

The railway stations, bus terminals and public transport hubs across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are busy making preparations for the heavy movement of passengers as families travel to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha together.

government travel advisories and arrangements for public safety

Provincial authorities and traffic management agencies are collaborating more closely to ensure smooth transportation during the holiday. More traffic personnel are expected to be deployed along the main highways, bus terminals and city intersections to address the increased movement of vehicles.

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has urged travellers to ensure their vehicles are checked before embarking on long journeys and to stay updated through official traffic advisories.

The public safety campaigns also aim at responsible driving behaviour like avoiding over-speeding, lane discipline and proper rest during long road trips.

The government’s coordinated planning is part of wider efforts to boost public convenience during one of the busiest travel periods of the year in Pakistan.

Expanding commercial operations and Eid market activities across Pakistan

Authorities said business hours were relaxed temporarily across the country to facilitate long commercial operations ahead of Eid al-Adha. Markets, shopping centres, livestock markets and food businesses will be open around the clock in several urban areas.

The move is aimed at catering to the increase in Eid shopping and also helping ease congestion during the day. Livestock markets in particular continue to attract large numbers of people as families prepare to buy sacrificial animals ahead of Eid.

Markets of Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad and other major cities are already busy as people buy clothes, food, travel and livestock.

Extended Eid holidays expected to benefit the tourism sector

The long public holiday schedule is also expected to give a big boost to Pakistan’s domestic tourism industry. Northern tourist spots of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa traditionally get thousands of visitors during Eid holidays as they have cooler weather and scenic mountain landscapes.

The hotels, guest houses, restaurants and transport operators in the tourist destinations of Swat, Naran, Kaghan and Malam Jabba are expecting an upswing in the tourist bookings and travel demand.

The tourism authorities still urge travellers to observe environmental protection measures and cleanliness in recreation areas during the holiday rush.

Emergency operations and public services during the Eid holiday

Government offices and educational institutions will be closed during the Eid holidays, but all essential public services will continue to operate. Hospitals, rescue services, law enforcement and sanitation teams are expected to continue to function fully.

Emergency response coordination centres are also being put on alert to respond to possible traffic incidents, weather disruptions or medical emergencies stemming from the increased movement of people across the province.

These arrangements show Pakistan’s increasing administrative preparedness on important national holidays and occasions of public interest.

Summary

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced four public holidays on Eid-ul-Azha, and one of the busiest festive travel and commercial periods in Pakistan is underway. Highways are tipped to be busy, tourist spots are bracing themselves for massive numbers, and markets are going full throttle. Authorities are still highlighting the need for coordinated planning and public safety.

Extended Eid holidays reflect the vibrant festive atmosphere of Pakistan with better administrative management throughout the province, be it enhanced travel advisories, preparedness for emergencies, commercial activities or tourism development.
