islamabad to become pakistan’s first fully cashless city
Islamabad Paves the Way Towards a Digital Future
Islamabad is ready to go fully cashless, meaning that you will no longer have to stand in long lines or keep cash on hand when paying for government services. Once you have finished paying your property tax, utility bills, and even parking tickets, they will all soon be done simply by using your smartphone!
This was just announced during a CDA high-level meeting being led by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The goal will be to have Islamabad, a smart, efficient, and strictly digital capital.
Digital Payments for All Civic Services in Islamabad
Under this proposal, digital payments will be launched in all departments of the CDA. Customers will be paying everything online, from water bills to land transfers, through QR codes or mobile apps.
“We are looking to increase transparency, speed, and convenience for the citizens,” said CDA chairman, Randhawa. CDA is also collaborating with leading banks to ensure that the CDA can make a secure system available to citizens to make digital payments.
No Queues or Cash Payments
A CDA official said, ”Imagine paying your water bill without standing in a queue or carrying cash. This is exactly what we are working on.” Phase one of this plan will occur within areas with high footfall and services accessed by numerous citizens. Once proven successful, the system will be launched right across the city.
Contributes to Digital Financial Inclusion
Experts have stated that this supports wider aims of Pakistan to include citizens through digital financial inclusion and remove manual cash handling, which is also a way to combat corruption. If implemented in Islamabad, this will allow other cities in Pakistan to use this model, making civic services better, cleaner, and faster for every citizen.
