Pakistan Announces Increased Cash Rewards for Internationally Medal-Winning Athletes
The Pakistan Sports Board has officially raised the cash rewards for athletes winning medals in international competitions. The decision was made at the 34th PSB Board meeting to sign off on a new cash award policy. The new policy raises the previous cash awards significantly for competition since the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. Under this new policy, Olympic gold medalists will now earn Rs30 million, which was previously Rs10 million. Silver medal winners will earn Rs 20 million, not Rs 7.5 million. Bronze medal winners will earn Rs 10 million instead of the previous Rs 5 million.
For the Asian Games gold medal prize has been raised to Rs15 million from the previous Rs7.5 million. Silver medal winners will receive Rs7 million, while the bronze winners will get Rs5 million.
In the Commonwealth Games, gold medal winners will be given Rs7.5 million from the previous Rs5 million. Silver medal winners will receive Rs5 million, while bronze medal winners will be awarded Rs3 million.
The policy also includes separate categories for World championships, Asian championships, Commonwealth events, and junior events. A gold medal winner at the World Championships, every four years, will be awarded Rs7.5 million. The cash awards for Junior and Commonwealth events will also be awarded according to the championship’s quality rating. Snooker and squash have also been included in a separate reward structure. The winner of the Snooker World Championship will receive Rs 1.5 million. The Asian Snooker Champion will receive Rs 750,000. squash: Winning the British Open or other major event alone will earn Rs 10 million. The Junior Squash Championship winner will receive Rs 5 million.
The policy is aimed at supporting and providing an incentive for athletes to strive for performance levels at the international level and build respect, recognition, and honour for Pakistan in the arena of sports.
