Pakistan’s Men’s & Women’s Baseball Teams Climb in Global Rankings
The World Baseball Federation has updated the team rankings, and the update brings good news for Pakistan, as both their men’s and women’s teams gained three positions.
The men’s team is now ranked 35th place in the world, up from 38th place, and has gained 8th place in Asia. The women’s team is ranked 14th place in the world, up from 17th place, and has gained 7th place in Asia.
“It has provided them with confidence going forward given the previous teams were not even in the competition at the last Asian Games,” said Fakhar Ali Shah, the president of the Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF). “Even in these tough circumstances, the girls are coming along.”
Japan preserves the No. 1 rank in the world for both men’s baseball and women’s baseball, with Chinese Taipei, the USA, South Korea, and Mexico being in the next top five of both rankings.
The PBF hired a Japanese coach named Kazuto Nonaka to help develop players, and since the beginning of May, Pakistani players Faisal Hayat and Musharraf of Pakistan have been with coach Kazuto Nonaka in Japan. Now Pakistan is preparing for the Asian Baseball Championship in China from September 22 to 28.
In another exciting development, national team pitcher Alex Khan has been appointed as the head coach of the Pakistan U-18 team for the 2026 U-18 World Cup qualifiers. Alex was a member of the Pakistani squad that played in the 2022 World Baseball Classic and will again be representing Pakistan on the national stage when he plays in the upcoming Asian Championship.
