pakistan’s quetta airport honored with asia pacific award
Quetta Airport Runway collects top Asia-Pacific Engineering Award
Quetta International Airport has won international accolades after its newly reconstructed runway won the FIDIC Asia-Pacific Engineering Excellence Award. The award ceremony recently took place in Islamabad. One of the most impressive aspects of the project was that the airport was not closed during the construction of the runway. Normal scheduled flights continued to operate throughout the work.
The project was approximately PKR 5 billion, and the runway is now one of the longest and most robust rigid-runways in the Asia-Pacific region.
Recognition for Planning and Safety
The award acknowledges the efforts of the Pakistan Airports Authority and the consultancy groups that worked on the project. Due to the planning and skill shown and the superb safety record the project was hugely successful.
First Flight Landed at the New Runway
First flight landing at the new runway was on 31 May 2023, which was PIA Flight PK-3250 coming from Islamabad. This award is not only a source of pride for Pakistan, but also shows the growing strength of Pakistan’s infrastructure and engineering.
