Inam Butt Becomes PWF Secretary, Arshad Sattar Becomes President
In the world of Pakistani wrestling, Arshad Sattar is the newly elected President of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) and the celebrated wrestler Inam Butt has taken the role of Secretary.elections were held at the Pakistan Olympic House in Lahore and described as a combination of experience and new outlook.Butt, who is 36-years-old, has enjoyed a successful career as a freestyle wrestler including as a two-time gold medalist in the Commonwealth Games and a two-time title winner in the South Asian Games.Butt’s new office would be his first leadership position.Both athletes and officials were satisfied by Butt’s appointment and believe he can actually have an impact on the sport.
“Inam’s participation will be a watershed moment,” Sattar said.”No one understands the needs and plight of our wrestlers the way he does.”Butt mentioned he planned to continue competing in some international meets, but his leadership duties and contributions to reform prefered he focus on assisting athletes administratively.“I want to devote more time to this post.” Butt stated following his appointment.“Our wrestling at all levels from grassroot to national level needs a lot support, and I think I can help.”Before assuming the role of PWF Secretary, Inam had already become a strong voice for athletes through his position as Chair of the Pakistan Olympic Association Athletes’ Commission — a role he won unopposed.Inam’s wrestling journey began on a high note back in 2010 when he became a Commonwealth champion in New Delhi when he beat India’s Anuj Kumar in the 84kg category.He became a Commonwealth champion again at the 2018 Gold Coast Games in 86kg.Now, with Inam in a leadership position while still being involved on the mat, analysts see real opportunity for growth in regards to Pakistani wrestling.A prominent athlete has taken charge, and, the current president the president is a very energetic former wrestler who will likely provide much in the way of stability.The next four years are looking very promising for wrestling in Pakistan.
