Pakistan plans new airports to boost air travel connectivity
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is embarking on a number of initiatives to improve air travel throughout the country. Among these is the construction of new airports in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), Dera Ismail Khan and Hyderabad, and the upgrading of the Sukkur Airport.
Project on Mirpur Airport in Final Phase
The project director and airport manager in Mirpur confirmed that the feasibility study is completed and will be presented for approval shortly. The airport will enable the citizens of Azad Kashmir to travel by air without relying on distant airports.
Land Acquired for Dera Ismail Khan Airport
The Airport Authority is in the process of acquiring the required land for the airport in Dera Ismail Khan. This project will governance in the provision of connectivity issues which has haunted the connectivity for decades in Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring areas.
Sukkur Airport to be a Regional Hub
While the government has upgraded the Sukkur Airport, it has also plans to develop a new airport in Sukkur. Sukkur is seen as a strategic location in northern Sindh and is set to become a regional air hub.
Hyderabad Airport to Start Flights
As for Hyderabad, the Defence Secretary has asked the PAA to resume commercial flight operations. Furthermore, there is a proposal to establish an aviation training school at the Hyderabad airport to help youth from the area in pursuing careers in the aviation industry.
These developments show the government’s dedication to making aviation even more modern in Pakistan and improving both regional connectivity for travel and trade.
