canadian actor faces ‘inhumane’ treatment at us border
The Canadian businesswoman and entertainer Jasmine Mooney came back to Canada after undergoing terrible detention experiences from US border authorities for nearly two weeks. On March 3, at the San Ysidro border, officers stopped Water and the ctor from entering the US to file a new work visa application.
The officers did not let Mooney’s visa lapse or help her finish it; instead, they arrested her. Even though Mooney committed no crimes and faced no official charges, she was moved between detention centers for serious prison conditions without natural light and slept under bright fluorescent light on a bare surface without any facilities to relieve herself. According to ABC 10’s report Mooney was in a bad condition, and officers covered her with foil rather than a blanket. In 2019, Baseball Canada recognized Mooney for her exceptional hospitality work. She left jail on Saturday early morning and then traveled directly to Vancouver Airport. She escaped a harmful research project because of bad experiences during her treatment. In November, she had her work visa terminated by US authorities when traveling from Vancouver to Los Angeles, and the authorities did not provide clear explanations.
