Under a request sent to NEPRA, Pakistani consumers could face smaller electricity payments because power companies want to lower unit prices by Rs2.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency seeks to lower costs under the normal fuel adjustment system for January. The Central Power Purchasing Agency data shows that electricity generation costs were Rs10.78 per unit in January while reference fuel expenses were Rs13.01 per unit. For January power generation platforms included 10.63% hydel power, 15.56% coal, 8.53% imported coal, 1.35% furnace oil, 13.11% local gas, 18.92% imported LNG, and 26.61% nuclear fuel.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commends the electricity sector reforms that deliver strong outcomes to the nation. In an Islamabad review session, the Prime Minister affirmed his commitment to provide power at cost-effective prices and in a sustainable way to all customers. He pointed out that changed contracts with Independent Power Producers help national finances by lowering electricity costs. PM Sharif highlighted his commitment to fight power theft in distribution companies by promising to boost anti-theft efforts to reduce transmission losses.
The CPPA’s demand for lower rates will go to NEPRA for evaluation and decision.
