5 Pakistani Climbers Conquer Nanga Parbat in Daring Feat
Moments after the latest ascent of Lieut Ashraf Sadpara and four fellow climbers reached the summit of Nanga Parbat, a mountain known for its fatal features, steep, unstable terrain, and killer weather, Pakistan can be proud of having five climbers while simultaneously creating history. Nanga Parbat, an 8,126-metre (26,660-foot) mountain often referred to as “Killer Mountain,” was an exceptional climb — completed in the past twenty-four hours — by the five brave mountaineers. There there was news of achievement by an exceptional lot: the adventurous Ashraf Sadpara, a climber of respect, is a proud father of a pioneer son, and completes all five of Pakistan’s astounding 8,000-metre peaks: K2 (three times), Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II and now, Nanga Parbat.
Sohail Sakhi Climbs Without Oxygen
Sohail Sakhi, a brave mountaineering climber from Hunza reached the summit at 11 AM as the only climber from Pakistan who completed the summit without the use of bottled oxygen or Sherpa assistance. The climbers’ expedition collaboration, Moving Mountains, described the climb as one of the finest examples of human achievement. This is not his first daring ascent – he has previously climbed Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, and K2, and has done it all without using oxygen. Sakhi has now shown that he is among the best climbers in the world.
A Doctor with a Peak Problem
Dr Rana Hassan Javed, a plastic surgeon from Rawalpindi, also stood on top of Nanga Parbat. He was part of an international 8-member team. This is his second-ever 8,000-meter climb after climbing Gasherbrum II in 2024. Fellow climber Naila Kiani praised Rana for his ability to balance his medical career with his love of the mountains. “He is admirable in his commitment.”
Local Heroes from Hushe and Hunza
Two other climbers made it to the summit too Ali Hassan, a porter from Hushe Valley, climbed alongside Dr Rana, and Sherzad Karim from Hunza reached the summit at 1 PM Friday.
