(C)STV News, worlds tallest and shortest women unite in london for a tea party
The tallest woman, Rumeysa Gelgi and the shortest Jyoti Amge, exchanged life tales and experiences from two very different viewpoints.
“It was so amazing meeting Jyoti for the first time. It was difficult for us to make eye contact at times due to our height difference but it was great,” Gelgi said.
Gelgi went on to say that the two ladies share a passion for makeup, manicures and self-care.
Gelgi is 7 feet taller than Amge who is just 24.7 inches tall. Gelgi has Weaver syndrome, an uncommon disorder characterized by fast development and bone abnormalities. Amge on the other hand suffers from achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism that prevents her from reaching a specific height.
Amge said, “I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than me but I was so happy to look up today and see the world’s tallest woman. I’m delighted that I’ve met Rumeysa, she is so good-natured and I felt very comfortable talking to her.”
In addition to being two of the most cherished Guinness World Records champions, the book’s 70th anniversary edition honors the two as GWR icons.
According to the organization, they are listed in Guinness World Records 2025 with other Guinness World Records luminaries including crippled strongman Dave Walsh, tallest man Sultan Kosen and female athlete Diana Armstrong with the longest fingernails.
“Being named as a Guinness World Records icon in this anniversary edition is surreal, it is the greatest honor I have ever had. I’ve seen myself among all these artists and athletes that I’ve always been a fan of. It’s an indescribable feeling,” Gelgi added.
This year’s Guinness World Records book includes celebrities such as Taylor Swift, who owns over 100 records including Most Album of the Year Grammy Awards (4), *Most entries on the US Hot 100 (263) and Highest grossing music tour in a year with $1.04 billion (£840.2 million). LeBron James also made history as the First father son duo to play on the same NBA team and currently has the Most points in NBA All Star games (426) among 32 titles.
Meanwhile, Diana Armstrong stands out with the Longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female) measuring an incredible 1,306.58 cm (42 ft 10.4 in) the longest ever recorded for a woman.
“I am thankful to Guinness World Records for finding me in 2009 and giving me the opportunities I have had. I never thought I would be called an icon and it’s extra special that it is in the 70th anniversary edition,” Amge said
