Heavy rains have battered the Gujarat coastline of India and Pakistan’s coastline along the Arabian Sea flooding areas of the state and forcing people to leave their homes with authorities predicting a cyclonic storm that can approach today, that is Friday, 30th August 2024.

At least 28 people died this week from rain related incidents or causes in the state of Gujarat. According to meteorologist officials in India and Pakistan, more downpours are expected with strong gushes of cyclonic winds and waves lashing the coastline.

Inhabitants residing near the coastal city of Jamnagar said, “There is no electricity for the past two days. I have an eight month old daughter and an asthma patient, my mother, who lives on oxygen support.”

As per the Disaster Management Authorities, more than 18000 people have been evacuated since Sunday from the coastline regions. Before this, the army has always been of help as they have helped evacuate more than 180,000 people from coastal regions during Cyclone Biporjoy after being deployed in relief work. The cyclone was devastating and caused very intense damage to infrastructure after striking with full force.

Heavy rains also hit the city of Jamnagar, home to the world’s largest oil refinery complex owned by Reliance, as per BK Pandya, the District collector.

The cause of the cyclone has been given as a forming of a deep cloud depression across the coast of Gujarat and is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Friday, the IMD said adding that it will go away after two days.

Pakistan Meteorological Departments have issued warnings along the coastline and have asked fishermen to not venture out into the seas until tomorrow.

Heavy rainfall is expected at Gujarat’s Bharuch, Kutch, and Saurashtra districts today. The rain has triggered flash floods across the Pakistan port city of Karachi causing power shortages and power cuts.

Flash foods are also expected to occur in Sindh province.
