In Sargodha, two activists from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Sanam Javed and Aliya Hamza, have been put on a seven-day physical remand by an anti-terrorism court (ATC). They were involved in a case related to vandalism. The court decided to release them in one case but kept them in custody for another. Originally, the police had requested a 30-day remand, but the court settled on seven days.
This is not the first time Sanam Javed is facing legal trouble. Earlier, they were accused and arrested for Allegedly setting fire to a PML-N office. They got bail for that incident at that time but later they found themselves back in custody. They were arrested due to their involvement in Darious other cases related to Vandalism and unrest.
May 9th Riots
These incidents stem from events on May 9th when tensions flared across Pakistan following the arrest of a former prime minister and PTI founder, Imran Khan. The protests happened right after Imran Khan’s arrest at the Islamabad High Court. PTI supporters came out onto the streets in anger. which led to clashes and Disturbances in many cities, including Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

During these protests, there were reports of attacks on army installations and even the home of a Corps Commander in Lahore. The situation became complicated and get out of hand. Then the armed forces were called in to maintain Law and order. Sadly, in the chaos, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi suffered severe injuries while trying to restore calm. The events of May 9th is proof of the tensions and unrest that can erupt in Pakistan’s political landscape. While political activism is a fundamental right, it must be conducted peacefully and within the bounds of the law.
