PM Shehbaz Sharif Launches Dynamic 19- Member Education Task Force to Combat National Crisis

Addressing the National Education Emergency

In a bold move to address Pakistan’s national education emergency, PM Shehbaz Sharif has announced the formation of a dynamic 19- member Education Task Force. Composed of key Ministers and influential representatives from both national and international organizations, this task force dismantled barriers to literacy and ensured quality education for all, especially underprivileged children.

Leading the Charge

Personally chaired by the Prime Minister, this task force highlights the government’s pledge to education. The Minister of Education and Vocational Training , Minister of IT and Telecom  and Minister of Information and Broadcasting  are the key members of this task force. The Federal Secretary will serve as the facilitator of the task force, with provincial secretaries and education ministers also included in its ranks. Remarkably, the country head of the World Bank will act as the convener, underscoring the international support for this cause.

Star Studded Task Force Members

The Task Force flaunts a stellar lineup of members from multiple esteemed organizations, securing a blend of innovation and expertise. Representatives from the Asian Development Bank, the Commonwealth and Development Office, UNICEF, UNESCO, the World Food Programme, and JICA bring global phenomena to the table. Notable local members include Amjad Saqib, Chairman of the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund; Shakeel Durrani, CEO of GIK Institute; Farid Panjwani of Agha Khan University; Syed Asad Ayub of the Citizen Foundation; Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor of LUMS; Dr. Faisal Bari, Dean of LUMS School of Education; and Javed Malik, Country Director of the Malala Fund.

Mission and Mandate

The Education Task Force has been entrusted with several crucial missions. Their primary mandate is to make ad hoc recommendations for educational projects, focused on improving the education system and removing obstacles to achieving literacy targets. Ensuring the education of underprivileged children is at the forefront of their agenda. Policy making for government schools and decisions to improve the quality and promotion of education will be central to their work.

   By conducting a thorough analysis of current practices, the task force aims to improve the overall quality and effectiveness of education in Pakistan. They will create strategies to overcome the hurdles that hamper literacy, with a special focus on underprivileged children. Sculpting and implementing policies aimed at upgrading the infrastructure and teaching standard of government schools is also a critical part of this mission. Also, promoting new innovative methods to improve the quality of education, making it more accessible and relevant, will be a key focus area.
