Coordinator to Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam has announced the upcoming launch of the first Green Tech Hub (G-TH), a state of the art facility aimed at transforming Pak energy landscape and reducing the carbon footprint. The initiative is targeted to foster green technologies, renewable energy solutions and eco-friendly innovations in the country.
Addressing a web meeting on the creation of the G-TH, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, the coordinator stated that the hub is backed by Gov of Pak in partnership with the private sector stakeholders, academic institutions, and international green tech organisations. The hub is aimed to position Pakistan as a regional leader in sustainable innovation.
Alam highlighted efforts to showcase the impactful projects at the upcoming UN led global climate summit (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan scheduled to begin on Nov 11, 2024. The summit is expected to draw in 40000 to 50000 delegates from 192 countries thus giving the Pak environment ministry a worldwide exposure and the representatives to showcase their projects in front of them.
The aim of showcasing these initiatives and project models is to attract potential investors to invest in the renewable projects thus boosting the Pak economy and also allowing the nation to go forward to achieve its environmental sustainability and climate resilience goals.
The COP 29 would focus on issues such as adaptation, mitigation, technology transfer, and establishing a new collective quantified goal on climate finance. The Green Tech Hub will act as a strategic connector linking Pak innovators with global investors to leverage climate finance for the showcased project models.
The hub will help in creation of green jobs and further technology improvement in the particular green energy and climate resilience sector.
