Pakistan Railways is taking steps to Recover Outstanding Dues from Federal and Provincial Departments for land use and Services. The Ministry of Railways has Urged timely Payment of over Rs 8.3 Billion owed by Various Departments. Federal departments owe Rs 709.08 Million, Provincial departments Rs 1,980.22 Million and autonomous Private Bodies Rs 5,685.74 million. Facing Economic Challenges the Railway Ministry Emphasizes the Urgency of Settling these Dues.

Additionally Pakistan Railways has Upgraded 181 Vulnerable unmanned level Crossings to manned ones out of a total of 550 identified across the railway Network. The Relevant Provincial Governments Provided Funds for this upgrade enhancing Safety and perational efficiency. There are two types of level Crossings: Unmanned, lacking Gate leaves and Manned equipped with Safety measures. Of the 1,565 unmanned level Crossings the railway Policy dictates that their upgrade is the Responsibility of the Road-owning Authority.

The Department’s Collaborative efforts with Provincial Governments involve upgrading unmanned and vulnerable Railway level Crossings Nationwide. This initiative aims to improve Safety Standards and Reduce accidents at these Crossings. In 2013-14 a joint Survey by Pakistan Railways and the Provincial Government identified accident Prone and vulnerable unmanned level Crossings Emphasizing the need for Upgrades.

In adherence to Section 12 of the Railway Act of 1890 the district administration or road authority is Mandated to Bear the Expenses for upgrading unmanned level Crossings. This approach Ensures shared Responsibility and Promotes a Safer Railway Network. Pakistan Railways’ focus on Recovering Outstanding Dues and Upgrading level Crossings aligns with its Commitment to financial Sustainability and Enhanced Safety measures across the Railway infrastructure.
