In a Significant diplomatic Victory, Pakistan Triumphed over India in the Elections for the UNESCO Executive Board Vice Chair from the Asia Pacific Group for the 2023-2025 term. The Elections held During the 218th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris saw Pakistan Securing 38 Votes out of the 58-member Executive Board while India Received 18 Votes.
The Foreign Office (FO) issued a Statement expressing Gratitude to the Executive Board members and all UNESCO member States for their Overwhelming Support Showcasing trust in Pakistan’s Candidature. Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch Emphasized Pakistan’s Commitment to fulfilling its Responsibilities with Credibility Honest Dialogue and mutual Respect.
As an ardent Supporter of Multilateralism Pakistan will Work together with UNESCO member States to Mobilize Collective efforts to Promote Common Objectives at UNESCO including its Global Priorities Africa and Gender Equality and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Operational Strategy, the Statement affirmed.
This Victory follows Pakistan’s Successful re-election to the UNESCO Executive Board during the UNESCO General Conference held on November 15, 2023. Pakistan’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO based in Paris Highlighted that Pakistan Received the Highest number of Votes within the Asia Pacific Group.
