Addressing the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in Islamabad, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir underlined Pakistan’s commitment to regional and global peace amid growing global challenges. He addressed key issues such as the spread of false information, the rise of extremism and the need for collective global action on pressing issues such as terrorism and climate change.

The army chief said the rapid spread of false and misleading information has become a major problem, destabilising political and social structures.

General Munir stressed the need for comprehensive laws and regulations to combat misinformation and hate speech.

Speaking at the Margalla Dialogue, Major General Asim Munir said that the rise of violent non-state actors and state-sponsored terrorism posed a major threat to global stability.

Unbridled freedom of expression leads to degradation of moral values, rising inequality, intolerance and religious, sectarian and ethnic divisions across the world.

Pakistan remains firmly committed to the creation of an independent Palestinian state and has consistently called for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. The country has also sent humanitarian aid to both regions.

He said Pakistan expected the Afghan Interim Government to ensure that Afghan soil was not used for terrorist purposes, while maintaining a comprehensive border management regime to secure its western borders.

Pakistan would not participate in any global conflict, but would continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the world, General Munir stressed.

He highlighted common global challenges, including climate change, terrorism and global health, and stressed the importance of working together to address these issues.
