Mullah Baradar-Led Taliban Delegation To Arrive Pakistan today

A delegation of the Aghan-Taliban led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar is set to arrive in Pakistan today, the Foreign Ministry confirmed in a press release issued on Wednesday.

A delegation of the Taliban Political Commission (TPC), headed by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, will be visiting Pakistan on 16-18 December 2020. During the visit, the delegation will meet with the Foreign Minister and call on the Prime Minister, the press release said.

The TPC delegation last visited Pakistan in August 2020.

The visit of the Taliban Political Commission delegation is part of Pakistan’s policy to reach out to key Afghan parties in the Afghan peace process with a view to facilitating the Intra-Afghan Negotiations, that commenced in Doha on 12 September 2020, it added,

Pakistan will continue to support an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement for durable peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region.

Pakistan has been at the centre of the Afghan peace process and brought the various sides on a single table to discuss the way forward for Afghanistan. The country has opened its good offices for all Afghan stakeholders to consult and discuss the Afghan peace process.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that Pakistan will do everything it can to ensure that the peace process is not sabotaged by any irritants.

Prime Minister Imran Khan during his maiden visit to Kabul, Afghanistan this year had vowed to support the Afghan peace process and bring an end to the hostilities in the country.

Afghan premier also lauded Pakistan’s support to the peace process and thanked the Imran Khan administration.

Earlier, when the peace deal was signed between the Taliban and the United States guaranteeing the removal of troops from the region, Pakistan helped broker that deal by bringing the Taliban to the negotiating table.
